Technology Services and the Office of Enrollment Management maintain a number of IT systems and services that support the student admissions process. The key systems used to collect and process admissions data for the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign students are the Common Application, Slate, Banner, and the custom applications myIllini and iAdmit.
What prospective student and admissions data we collect
Contact & identification information
This includes name, address, parents/guardians contact information, date of birth, Social Security Number, UIN, photo, emails, phone numbers, admissions essays and responses to short answer questions.
Demographic information
Such as sex, ethnicity, race, citizenship and socio-economic data.
Education records
Such as education history, transcripts and test scores.
Work history
This includes employer name and dates of employment.
Immigration information
Such as passport number and visa information.
Crime & conduct information
This includes criminal convictions and offenses.
Event registration information
Including event attendance, accommodations associated with event registration.
System login information
Such as browser and operating system used, IP address, user agent, date and time of login, length of session, page visits, email open and click rates and transaction timestamps.

Ensure system stability and positive user experience by monitoring service performance, maintaining a reliable record of transactions and providing end-user support.

Analyze aggregated data sets to identify and respond to admissions and academic trends.

How we collect prospective student and admissions data
Directly
- When you provide it to us by completing forms during the admissions process.
Automatically
- Integrated library system and other library services produce and collect information. For members of the university academic community the Library receives personally identifiable information from campus administrative systems. Some third-party vendors (e.g. Google) also collect data and make it available to the Library.
From Illinois staff
- When they record information on activities, such as event registration and attendance, admission application evaluations, admission decisions, etc.
From external sources
- When we receive admission application data from CommonApp and CollegeNet, test scores from Educational Testing Service. We also purchase records of prospective students.

The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign does not sell or rent your information. We share it with:
- Service providers
That support student administration systems and services offered by the university. We require our service providers to keep your personal information secure and use it only for providing services on the university’s behalf. - Other UI campuses
When we share your admissions application with other UI campuses if you have given permission.
Personal information may also be shared when required by law, or to protect the safety, property, or rights of the university, its community members and guests.
